Good Thing, The First: Fresh Ink
On Sunday, after pedicures with Rhi, wherein she was put in pedicure timeout, we suspect for refusing nail art, I decided it was time to get my fifth tattoo. I’d been mulling over myriad ideas for various tattoos and placements, but ultimately decided on one for my inner left wrist.

It’s “I love you” in Korean, in my sister’s handwriting, from a note she sent me from South Korea as part of my birthday package this year. It’s pretty much my favorite thing ever. (Pretend the semi-circles are closed, because they should be, and they will be by the end of today.)
I went to Icon in Portland, which is by far the cutest tattoo shop I’ve ever seen. My tattoo artist is also pretty much the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. (Hi! Silje.)
The shop (and all the artists therein) came highly recommended from a friend and coworker who recently got sprigs of lavender done on her back/rib-cage area. (My friend Zanny’s awesome tattoo is also from there.) It’s woman-owned (which yes, I love), and has such an artistic, welcoming feel. It’s also devoid of pictures of skulls and bleeding dragons and Other Disturbingly Dead Things on the walls, which, I have to say, is something I find completely off-putting about most tattoo shops. That, and the giant poster-sized flip books of completely unoriginal artwork for the person who has everything. Or who can’t decide on anything. (And hi, very much not judging; my first tattoo was chosen from within one of those poster-sized flip books. But, seriously, NEVER AGAIN. There is just too much beautiful (and unique!) art out there to ever need one of those boards.)
Good Thing, The Second: IMAX-Sized Edward vs. Jacob: The Showdown*
*d.b.a. Twilight: Eclipse.
Am I going to try to sell you on the literary merit of any of these books (beyond a love story that is undeniably engaging)? Heck no. Am I beyond excited to see this movie tomorrow with Kali? You bet your sweet werewolf I am.
Good Thing, The Third: Sweet Cinematic Suspense
By now I’m sure any loyal Harry Potter fans have seen these trailers for Parts I and II of The Deathly Hallows (the last of the Potter series), but just in cases:**
Trailer 1: The one released last December that I somehow missed until yesterday.
Trailer 2: The one released just yesterday (June 28) that gave me ACTUAL GOOSEBUMPS while I watched it.
KERRI ALL CAPS PSYCHED OUT OF HER MIND: Not pictured.
But if it WERE pictured, it would probably look something like this:

Instead of Nicolas Cage riding Falkor with that muppet-like expression of sheer! glee! on his face, you’re picturing me, right? OK, good.
For the skeptics in the group: The books? Really are amazing. And the films? Minus a few minor (see also: HUGE) deviations from the books, are fantastically done. The special effects are incredible, the characters: memorable, and I end up laughing and crying throughout most of them (see also: ALL of them). (Shut your face. They are GOOD, I’m telling you. You aren’t allowed to hate unless you’ve at least read the first book, or watched a movie or two.)
**Whenever I type “just in cases” with that extra “s” you guys know I’m referencing Love Actually, right? Because if you don’t you (must think I’m grammatically challenged, yes, and) should go rent and watch that movie right this second. You know, after you watch all of the previews herein embedded for your enjoyment.
I so so so cannot wait to see Harry Potter!
And your tattoo is just awesome.
OMG Harry Potter! I am so glad you are also very excited. (I am currently devising plans to find Wesley a babysitter for the midnight premiere. Does this make me a bad parent?)
I just love what you went with for the new tattoo. I really do. Simple, meaningful, and just lovely.
I hereby love you even more than I already do, which is a lot. I CAN NOT BLOODY WAIT for our movie date tomorrow, which is why I may or may not (MAY!) be getting to the theater an hour and a half early to make sure we get seats.
OK, everything in this post is awesome! Everything!
I love your tattoo. I have been dithering for at least a year about getting one in that exact spot but I haven’t pulled the trigger yet.
Love the tattoo!
Also, I can’t wait for the HP movie! I’m pissed we have to wait until November and that they are splitting it into 2 parts. Because you know you’re going want to see part 2 as soon as part 1 ends!
I think I need to re-read the book!
Really cool tattoo. You’re going to be asked the same question a lot, “What does that say?”
———
Thank you! sir. And I’m totally psyched for people to ask! It’s a pretty great (quickly stated) story, so that helps. My trip to South Korea (and the time I spent with my sister there) was just monumental to me this year. I have no doubt this tattoo will always make me smile, and that’s one of the reasons I love it so much.
You know I think the tat is epic and special. Did it hurt like a bitch though? That’s a tender area.
I have never read nor watched Harry Potter movies. I’m not against them, just never gotten around to it. I hope the fact that I have zero interest in anything Twilight does not injure our friendship. ;-)

You know! It actually hurt way less than the one on my forearm, and maybe even less the ones behind my ears. My wrist seems to have just the right balance between no meat and enough meat not to feel like the needle is like, grating on bone or something (because: ick). And honestly, because it’s so small, it was over before I had any time to feel uncomfortable at all. I was staring at a horse-shaped balloon the whole time (with bared teeth, like Mr. Ed) and had to stop myself from laughing.
First-my boyfriend and I ALWAYS say “just in cases”. Because it’s better.
Second-LOVE the tattoo. Perfection. I love tattoos with meaning.
Third-Harry Potter!!!!!!!!! I can hardly stand the wait.
I love your tattoo, I think it’s the sweetest thing ever.
And all those previews make me shiver with excitement. AAAAGH I CAN’T WAIT.
Love the tattoo! I’m thinking about getting another one in honour of my time in NZ. :)
“You bet your sweet werewolf I am.” is my favorite line of the day.
I, like Sizzle, have neither read nor watched Harry Potter…and don’t plan to. Just not interested. I hope you still love me.
I haven’t read the Twilight books either, but the movie is penciled in on our date calendar for when the kids are away.
And I already told you that I love the tattoo, but it needs to be stated again for public record: LOVE.
I finally watched the trailer and O!M!G! GOOSEBUMPS fo sho. I cannot wait.
You are the singlemost adorable nerd I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, ever.
Love, Supernerd.
That was the second worst pedicure I’ve ever gotten. The nail on my big toe is crooked!
I love the tatt. I’ve been thinking of getting one with Thalon’s name but I’m not sure where to put it and think it might be kinda cheesy. do you?
OMG i love, love, love the new tattoo. and your friend zanny’s. they SO make me wanna go back for more as well!!! and i will, after this summer. oh and i love you, too!
Love the tattoo!
I’m going to see twilight next week, the way it should be seen: after a number of drinks at a nearby restaurant with a girl friend :)
Love your tattoo! Very cool. I really need get my ass in gear about my Z tattoo…

the tattoo is PERFECT. love.
also? that picture of nic cage is so disturbing. I will likely have nightmares.
Hey, you’d be so happy. My kids are now watching the Harry Potter series from the beginning and are already about to start #5. They are all loving it!
I want to see your other tats! :)
Yeah, I got one after my whole thyroid cancer stuff was over. Yipes.
It’s here: http://www.bird-on-a-line.com/2009/04/my-big-fat-easter-weekend.html
