A bit of backstory, to this, my pre-birthday weekend:
So, the past few years I’ve admittedly played the hermit card when my birthday came rolling around. Partially because I grew up celebrating my birthday every summer in conjunction with the last day of school, and as such, I’ve had my fair share of boisterous (pool) parties, and partially because I have this mental block sometimes wherein the insecure, silly part of me tells the friendly, outgoing part of me that people don’t like celebrating birthdays anyway, and aren’t you too old for that sort of thing? And it’s probably better just to go away for the weekend, and then no one will feel like they have to buy you presents.
This year I told the aforementioned silly, insecure part of my birthday-celebrating self to shut the heck up after I realized what I wanted more than even a pony for my birthday was to be surrounded by good friends all weekend long.
So, I sent out Evites and people responded, and then Jen said she would love to come down from Seattle, and then I realized that hey, birthdays can be pretty awesome, and I spent Saturday and Sunday basking in the reality that I really did hit the jackpot when it comes to rad and hilarious friends.
The moral of the story: tell your silly insecure self to be quiet and enjoy having friends who will drive X number of miles and brave traffic and quasi-violent pedicure massages to spend time with you.
In short, this has been one of my favorite of all birthday weekends, thanks to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. And those who couldn’t make the celebrating in person let me know they were there in spirit, and you know? They totally were.
(OK, I promise to stop with the mushy friend stuff soon and very soon. But first! Pictures!)
Pretty peonies from Amanda:

An amazing stone necklace from my Hans:

Lovely paper flowers that will grow into an outfit or two, from Ian & Jenelle:

Lilies from Chris:

A hand-knit clutch from Erin:

Mustache pint glasses from Jen:

And, to top off the weekend, I even got my very own pony of the embroidered variety courtesy of Meggan.

Here’s to this year being one to remember, from start to finish.
happy birthday, lady :) xoxo
Weeeee! Happy birthday!
Happy birthday! For last two years I’ve had all my friends and sisters come out for celebratory dinner and chill party. I feel a little selfish planning my own birthday get-together, but I love being surrounded by friends. I’m glad you had fun!
Happy Birthday, You! I have a little gift for you – so we’ll have to get together soon!
How can you not be happy with those cheekbones?
I’m so glad that you had an awesome weekend. Birthdays are always a worthwhile celebration! Always tell that insecure part of you to shove it when it comes time to party. ;-)
Um, Jen and I have similar gift taste. Good thing I got you something other than that too. Hee hee!
Can’t wait to see you this weekend- HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
Happy Birthday! It was so good to see you again. And now my toes are spectacular too!
Happy Birthday, Kerr. I hope you’ll have a fanastic day (after an already fantastic weekend!)
xoxo
It sounds absolutely perfect.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!
YAY! Happy birthday, lovely!!!
what lovely gifts! happy birthday. :)
Happy Day! Sad I missed it, but we’ll have to celebrate at BlogHer again too!
Wow, you made OUT! Happy (pre)birthday!
It was absolutely my pleasure to come down to Portland for your birthday. And it was so great to meet some of your other friends, too. All good people, just like you.
Now that I’ve done the drive myself, and I know that my boys can survive without me, I just may show at your door again this summer. :)
Happy Birthday! I love peonies.
So glad you had an excellent birthday!
I’ve never been a hermit on my birthday because it is my favorite day of the year. But I’m a famewhore. :)
