But first! My additon to this week’s SPF, and she chose feet! FEET! And not just any feet! “YOUR feet!” And, as some of you have noticed and commented on in the past, I just so happen to possess an affinity for taking pictures of mine (and everyone else’s) feet. This particular shot I actually took a couple weeks ago, during Chris’ and my first lake visit of the summer.

And, without further adieu, the afore-promised bean-spillage:
He asked if I felt like trekking up to Priest for the day. He asked in passing, cooly non-chalant, but I heard an air of anticipation hovering in his voice. “Sure!” I replied enthusiastically, and without hesitation. I can’t remember ever neeeding an excuse to visit a place that over the years has become synonymous with a brilliantly forested, trail-laden version of home.
We spent the afternoon lounging on cozy beaches, taking pictures and watching a waterline bustling with boats, jet skiis, and sunblock-soaked children armed with buckets traipsing between shallow water and beach under the watchful eyes of shade-seeking parents and golden retrievers.
After resisting the urge to take pictures of beautifully plated cedar-smoked salmon and stuffed gorgonzola steak, and after indulging in huckleberry pie and huckleberry cheesecake, respectively, he suggested a walk in the woods.
I had the sneaky suspicion that the walk in question boasted an ulterior motive, but I played clueless, up until the point where he magically found the most serene spot on the lake and this time a little less non-chalantly asked me to sit on a log that had washed ashore. At that point I couldn’t stop smirking to myself, and I sat there grinning like an idiot, fighting the urge to jump off my cozy log-seat and yelp “yes!” before he even had the chance to ask the question.
He was nervous, which only made my smirk widen, and when he knelt to ask me he was literally in the lake, which was not only adorable but also somehow perfect and fitting and, well, damp. Damp like his eyes. Damp like mine, too.
I feel so blessed to call this talented, witty, intelligent, handsome Southern gentleman my fiancé.

And, of course!, no impending-vow-taking post would be complete without two requisite pictures of The Sparkly. Please feel free to “ooh” and “aah” at will. Or jump up and down, or even playfully snicker at the (silly, yes, but also oh so lovely) sentimentality of it all. I love this ring.

But mostly I just love this man.

I can tell from the things that you write about each other, and the wonderfully supportive things that you have written to me (thank you, thank you, thank you) that you are a perfect match and that you’ll make each other very happy.
Even though you clearly don’t even need my well wishes, I wish you all the best anyway!
Keep us all updated on the planning (I love that stuff!).

That is truly wonderful news! I am sorry I have been away and missed your post and email!
A few years ago, M sang the DMB song, “Two Step” to me, in the silence late at night, in a voice just above a whisper. I fell in love with him then.
When we visited the Grand Canyon a year ago, we held hands and stood at the edge. Though I had been there years ago, I have never felt anything like the thrill of fear of falling, standing there with our hands entwined, our tight grip relaxing to a gentleness, standing at the opening of that massive cavernous hole in the earth, so huge it felt like outerspace, except for the light reflecting off the millions of facets of the rock, except for the gravity of having him next to me, kept our feet on the ground, made us feel big enough and strong enough, together.
I wish you the very best of love and joy and life. Standing side by side.
